I have never tried this method myself
but when I read about it, I figured it may be worth considering as a emergency method of removing a fish for a particular problem (coral nipping, bullying etc)

the method requires emptying your tank of water only and not rocks etc

make a deep depression in 1 area of your sand bed
syphon out the water into holding tubs
as the water gets lower and lower the fish, all the fish, will eventually come to that deeper area you have created in the sand bed

capture the fish you want out
    pump the water back in

anyone on here tried that method?

    if so did it work?

Interesting method. I think you need to have a deep sand bed for it to be effective.

Sounds like it would work fine but only for smaller tanks. I can't imagine doing this for say something larger than a 75 or even a 50, that's a lot of water to remove.

    That is interesting.
I recall when I had to remove all my rock to get a tang out once, I could see trying that then.

Hey mod, I moved this to the fish board. lol :)

smart smart idea but like it was said for smaller tanks. but what about some of these gammas that go into the rocks and hide i dunno if it will work. i had a purple gamma and i tried to remove him and when i would try he would go into a hole in the rock and hide and even when i pulled out the rock he would stay in there out of water.but cool idea.

On my 180, I dont have enough bath tubs in the house to acomplish this. unless I buy another 150 gallon tub!

I made a trap out of a coke bottle and it worked PERFECTLY for removing a bi-color angelfish.

I did this with my 40 breeder for some of the faster fish....was a FOWLR though worked like a charm...since there was nowhere else to run...I mean swim LOL.

I hear you on the fish hiding in the rocks...I have yellow tail black blenny that hid in the powerhead wich even got rinsed out in the sink and only poped out well after being put back into the tank (good thing I waited to turn the PH back on).

I usually use a 2 net method w/2 people one chases the other catches, if the chaser has a chance to catch it then you do. Usually works well....but there are those fish, who unfortunately for us, are quite determined not to be caught ...hence the above method was used.
