When we set up our new 120, we put in (used to have cc, kept a few cups to seed it) new sand. It isn't the tiny fine sand it's probably 1/16" grains sand. Much smaller than cc we had for years. We didn't want the sandy mess and wanted to be able to vacum up if we wanted to (had dsb and didn't like it years ago, fish would stir it up too much and it'd land on rocks/corals)So didn't want fine stuff.

Anyway....Friend of ours brought over 2 cups of fine sand to help seed it. My fish have been goofy! My clownfish will swim at the pile we had and slam her body into. It will cover her! Then the scissortail dartfish did the same thing! They ended up spreading it all over the bottom rocks! We were joking around that they could smell the fish from his tanks (like a dog). It reconfirmed that I'm glad to not have that fine stuff again, but did the fish just like the feeling of the fine stuff?

I know my scissortails loved to dig in the sand, and my clown will rearrange the sand in front of his home in the duncan. I dont know if it has anything to do with it. Maybe they knew that it needed spread out. Or maybe the pile of sand smelled like a pile of crap in front of their door. lol
