Hey, currently I have a 120 gallon aquarium 48X24X24 with the following friends: 1 tomini tang, 1 clown, 1 diamond back goby, 1 six line wrasse, 1 yellow coras wrasse. I am looking to add 2-3 more fish just curious what some of your favorite fish are/recommend, and they would need to be reef friendly as my tank is reef based. Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks!

Wow sounds like you are in the same dilema I am in. I have a 120 G tank with a Blue Hippo, mated pair of misbar oscellaris, diamond back goby, cleaner wrasse, 2 green chromis and a firefish and I want to add another fish but cannot decide.

I am stuck between a purple tang, scribble rabbitfish, and a bluejaw triggerfish. Are you looking for something bigger? colorful? personable?

My wife likes colorful and big, she looks at the tank and says that big of a tank they should be big, and it is saltwater so that means tropical. I thought about doing some chromis and a purple tang, but I was talking with my fish guy (my lfs who I deal with), and he was not a fan of chromis, he believed they had a short life, and possibly just is not a fan of them. I am really open to anything it is just so many possibilitites out there, within reason, and I don't want to put anything in the tank that will outgrow it. I had a regal (hippo)tang back in my 55 galllon that I figured when he got big enough I would upgrade, but he got ich and I had the epidemic of 2008 to take care of so definitely am staying away from regal (hippo) tangs.

My fav is the midas blenny, they are very peaceful and graceful. I've read that they can pick at gobies possibly, but my blenny has been in QT now for four weeks and it's a small tank and has a yellow clown goby in it too and the goby is practically attached to the blenny, they get along great and look like they are mates, it's funny. Here is a pic of my midas so you have an idea of the look. They swim like eels and having a mated pair would be cool.

In general tangs are disease prone. This is because they have a thin slime coat that allows parasites and such to bore into it more easily than a fish with a thicker slime coat. This is one of the reasons why tangs appear to have no scales. There are some exceptions to this rule, as some tangs are less disease prone than others, but in general they are very disease prone. Right now my Blue Hippo just recovered from ick only to now have HLLE...it is an ongoing battle!

I am thinking about a Rabbitfish of some sort because they do eat some nuisance algae and they develop awesome personalities. The one at my LFS comes to the top of the tank and blows bubbles out of the water, it is very cool.

How about some clowns or a black cap basslet? Both are very colorful and get to a nice reasonable size. I am really enjoying my 5 blue green chromis a lot more than I thought I would. Those would be a great choice as well.

I personally wouldn't put another tang in. Check out flasher/fairy wrasses, they have great color and are quite active, also maybe a melanurus wrasse. If you go any bigger than a tomini tang they're probably going to outgrow your tank. Sorry to say IMO that a 120 really isn't that big for the larger species of marine fish!
