okay so I never really noticed one and my wife did not complain about my tank when I had the smaller 46. Now that I upgraded to the 125 I can notice and the wife is complaining that my basment smells like a fish store.
I never had this problem when the 125 was a freshwater tank. Is it because i'm running an open back canopy and fuge now compared to having glass lids on the tank when it was freshwater? Or is smelling the tank an indication something is wrong?
I've been to other peoples houses with large saltwater tanks and did not notice the smell. How do I stop this?

you can get one of those holmes air cleaner things at wal mart and it has a carbon filter. This will help a lot! Yeah my house smells like an ocean LOL

fishy smell like from a fish market? you might want to sniff around your system and look for something odd. does your tank water smell fishy?

Carbon is the answer ....I just started up the 125 after " nuking " the rocks....and there was a " fishy smell"...not like the salty ocean....like dead fish smell......( took longer then antisipated to get the rock back into the tank ) a few days on LOTS of carbon....and smell is almost all gone ! I added carbon to my canister filter and added a large bag full into the sump under the DT return lines.

Mine smells kind of like ocean. One of my favorite smells. I don't have the "smell" thus far.

Mine is also only 25g, so....... :shifty:
