Fish suggestions for redsea max

After discussion, my wife and I have narrowed down the type of fish we want to put in our redsea max:

Definite:
Hi Fin Red Banded Goby to be paired with a pistol shrimp
Firefish, Purple

maybe:
gumdrop coral croucher (I don't know much about it.)
yellow clown goby


I'm looking for suggestions for fish that are active swimmers at different levels. I'd like to have fish at different levels and have different characteristics ie active swimmer, hide in the rock, etc. I know the goby will be on the bottom near the shrimp and I want to say the firefish will be near the top of the tank.

I'd like to keep small fish with a total fish count of about four. This will be a reef/fish tank.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

 

The firefish will most likely stay close to the bottom (unless it's feeding). I would think that it and the high fin might have a few scraps in that small of a tank. I also think that the gumdrop (which is venemous by the way) and yellow clown gobies are similar enough in body shape, etc., where they too may not tolerate each other. If you're interested in a "swimmy" fish, you could always add a pair of clownfish or a six line wrasse if those are fish that interest you.

 

six line's rule, and a pair of clowns like amcarrig said....... clown gobies are cute little suckers..

 

Can't go wrong with a nice pair of A. percula. Active and good addition to the 2 fish you've already selected. I'd pass on the clown goby. I don't trust those things.

 

Would you recommend a yellow watchman goby over the high fin to reduce the similarities between the two fish (p? I like the goby/shrimp partnership, but my wife is dead-set on the purple firefish and I'd rather have compatible fish.

Thank you for recommending the clownfish. I like them and I think my son will get a kick out of watching them.

 

Well, I think that the problem with the burrowing gobies is more of a space/territory than species issue. I'm not saying that you can't have both but just to keep in mind that there might be some aggression issues later on. I would think that if both of the gobies chose burrows on opposite sides of the tank, you'd have nothing to worry about as these fish seldom stray very far from their burrows. Also, you're probably aware that firefish are notorious jumpers so keep that in mind as well. If the fish is spooked, it may very well jump out of your tank.

 

how about blue hippo tank? they are on scene always in every level of your tank. i have 2 false percula couldn't pair yet may be won't and 1 blue hippo tank so far.

 

red sea max is only a 34g tank if memory serves me correct, a blue hippo needs 100+g

 

if you have plenty of rock work a SIXLINE WRASSE will zip in and out of all the crevices. but you may want to add him last as he can get a bit aggressive. This fish almost always stays within the rock but will come out to feed. and he'll eat about anything very hardy fish.
