Not sure if this is the right topic to post this in, feel free to move it if needed. I have a 75 gallon reef tank, and currently only 3 fish. I have a true perc clown, 6 line wrasse, and tomini tang. It's been a quite a while since we've added any new fish and I'm itching to add another, just not sure what I want. I did have a firefish but didn't have any sort of screen top/lid and he jumped. I've thought about adding another but don't know how it would work with the tang already in the tank. Any suggestions?

with the tang and the sixline, you may have problems adding anything. those two fish are best added last. maybe a dwarf angel could hold his own. firefish are very timid and even if they don't jump, they can't compete with aggressive fish.

My thoughts exactly. At the very least you should keep all new fish in an acclimation box until they don't show any signs of aggression. It won't be an easy transition either way...

well depending on the type of invertebrates in your tank you could go with a snowflake eel, however they do eat some invertebrates, dwarf angels tend to hold there own, some fish on the fringe are blue throat or pinktail triggers or harliguin tusk fish might work, it depends on what kind of invertebrates you have in your tank. Engineer gobies would work if you have secure rock work and a sizable sand bed. I would suggest get some sort of lid for your tank it would greatly improve your ability in stocking your tank. If you wish to get more fire fish I suggest rearranging your rock work to give the new fish a chance to set up there own territories.

what about a bottom dweller like a yellow watchman goby? They are such cool little fish. Also, what about another clown (making sure to get it much smaller than your current one)? Perculas do tend to be more passive compared to other clowns so I'm not sure about the six line....I've never kept one but many say they are aggressive. Maybe you could move it out for a bit after adding other fish? Just a thought.... I agree about a dwarf angel as a possible choice and I really like hawkfish as well. Just some ideas :)

The dwarf angel is very tempting, but I'm worried it would take a liking to my corals. I do keep looking at the yellow watchman goby, it's like you're reading my mind. I have read that they need fed everywhere from 1-3 times per day. How often do you guys think? I hate to get something that would require my tank sitter to come over 2-3 times per day to feed when we're on vacation.

I've also thought about a second clown too, my first one is probably somewhere between 1.5-2" or so, he was just a little guy when I got her back in March or so. If I got one around 3/4-1" you think he'd fair out ok with the other guys? I will buy an acclimation container before any new fish.

If you keep him healthy, I'm sure you can go a few days without the recommended feedings.

I've had a yellow watchman for about three years, was never aware of special feeding requirements.I feed my fish every other day and he is fat and healthy.I also have no refugium that is providing a constant supply of pods.

I've had a yellow watchman goby for at least 4 years...he's never been fed any differently than the rest of the tank. He always comes up during feeding time, but will sift through the sand also looking for goodies. I had him paired with a pistol shrimp for several years and the pistol died last year. The goby has been fine on his own, but I loved that pair! I actually bought another pistol shrimp and they never paired. I thought the pistol had died so I bought another. Well, now I have 2 pistol shrimp and the goby all sharing the same burrow!

As far an dwarf angels, I've had a pygmy angel for close to 5 years and have never had issues with my corals. Beautiful fish, too!

    Good luck!
