    White-Faced Surgeonfish or Acanthurus japonicus is the type you want to get. The Tang more commonly called a Powder brown is a A. nigricans They can be quite difficult as they are very sensitive to acclamation and picky eaters. But as John said I have heard great successes with both. I just love my A. japonicus

    Thank you Jason for the info and the link on the Acanthurus japonicus and the Acanthurus nigricans. ;) I have never seen the Acanthurus nigricans in any of my LFS's Just the Acanthurus japonicus But thank you for the education as I didn't know about the Acanthurus nigricans .
    Matt Thank you for the response I have herd that also, The browns are more hardy than the blues and I do agree with you that the brown's are very pretty fish also, but I have my mind set on a Powder Blue and I know if I get it and I have problems I am going to say, I should have listened to Matt and Jason. :-[
    John That is true no matter what fish you want to get somebody has had a bad experience with them so I think I am going to do some more reading and ask some more questions but in the end I think I am going to get the powder blue.
    I think I will set up a hospital tank just in case before I get it Thanks to all and if anyone has or had a powder blue please feel free to give me your opinion ;) ;D....................... John

    PBT is the biggest ICH magnet on the planet. 1/2 die BEFORE even reaching the wholesaler. The other half dies in the LFS and hobbyists tanks ;)

    I think it is also a matter of perception :)

    If you think about it, how many tanks have you seen that includes a Powder Blue or Yellow tang? I would almost bet that most tanks ( if large enough ) would have at some stage included one of these fish.

    Now, consider this, how many posts on the Internet have you seen saying " Gee my yellow tank is doing great" ?

    So I think that a lot of the ' bad press' that these animals get it simply due to the fact that they are present at some time in most tanks.

    As an analogy some people will tell you not to drive a white car because white cars have more accidents.

    Thank you for your input, So what you are saying is that 100% of these fish die in transport / home aquarium environment and if that is true nobody has ever successfully kept a Powder Blue Tang correct?
    You see this is exactly what John and I are talking about, I would be very interested is seeing any data that can substantiate your comments as I have also herd that they do get ich very easy but are they more susceptible to it than any other tang? The Hippo Tang is also very well known for getting ich and yet you see them surviving quite happily in an lot of home aquariums ;) :D ;D .............................. John.

    Sorry, no data in print to back that up, but I've seen more dead PBT then I care to share. My data is my experience, as well as my bosses experience of nearly 30 years of shipping MO. You won't see to many PBT's on our list ;)

    Some do make it, of course, but the vast majority die. They simply ship horriably and acclimate to captivity horriably as well.
