After my 46-gal. FOWLR tank has cycled I was thinking about getting a dwarf-zebra lionfish.
With that in mind would in work to stock a few other fish like 1-Coral Beauty Angelfish & 1-Clarkii Clown, & 1-Green Mandarin.

I am new to saltwater and have read to introduce fish one at a time and be patient. Just was not sure with this mix if they would get along.

I wouldn't trust the lionfish with the mandarin dragonet. The mandarin is very docile and trustful of fish around him so the lionfish could creep up and wham! :)

The mandarin needs to be in an atmosphere of peaceful fish inhabitants to prevent anyone from disturbing his quest for pods.

LOL I agree. I have always wanted a lion tho. But I only have one tank and its becoming a reef, and of course lions are not reef compatible  Oh well.

Ah, the lion fish...I wanted it since I first saw it when I was a kid, but now that my taste is going toward corals, I am going to wait until I setup my 75 gallons in a year or so.

I wish I can get the mandarin now (actually, I wish I can find a mandarin that eat pellets or frozen food:)), but since my tank is still young, I am going to have to wait for a few more months for the copepods in my fuge to multiply.

since you are just starting the clarkii is a very hardy fish it would help with your cycle. coral beauty can be a little sensitive to newly cured water. the mandarin is hard to keep since they move slow and eats all the time it may not be the fish for a beginner. and the clown and the angel will beat it to the food. lionfish will only eat live food (and live fish). i personally like hawkfish. look at a flame hawk or some tangs

Well, as i tell many people...its tough beginning reef tanks because you want to know what fish your going to get. Dont worry we all do. But looking back, i wish that i had the knowledge i have now when i was buying fish. I would not have bought a regal tang, or a sailfin (both dead :() I would not have purchased two fire fish (they fought and one jumped) etc. I would say the clown is a great choice since you are starting a reef tank, so when its ready for an anemone they are not picky. but other than that, i would wait...im sure that only after a couple of weeks you will fall in love with a fish you see at ur local fish store, the you can ask us and we will let you know :)
