Something hooked up to my fishtank caught fire and burned/melted almost all of the cords going to my equipment this afternoon.

Luckily, my smoke alarms are in good working condition so I was able to act before my entire house went up in flames.

It seems like a surge protector I was using melted.

    Total bummer.

The cords to my mag5, mag9.5, 8x54w t5 and two powerheads are melted down.

So happy I was home or I would have lost everything and my dog.

Sorry to hear about this but plus 1 on you being home. Had you not been home the results could have been really bad.

Glad it wasn't worse for your sake.

All I can say is GFCI! Surge protectors and cheap power strips will burn your house down.

Hope you are able to get back up and running soon. :)

lesson learned. I am not sure if I have the funds to put everything back together so I might be selling everything that is still in good order. Looks like my livestock may have taken a shock too. My mini maxi and maxima clam are not looking very happy.

I am going to buy a new powerhead now to keep circulation going. One of the existing powerheads looks ok, but it definitely was in the fire.

I will get pics up later of the carnage.

Can I replace the cords that were melted by re-soldering new wires to the ballasts?
