Hi everyone, today as I was going to feed the tank I noticed a pretty strong, for lack of a better word...fishy odor. The only other time this happened was when I left the carbon in a little too long. It can't be the carbon, I don't think, as I just changed it about 5 days ago. Only thing I added was a phosphate pad when I changed the pre filter in the drip tray. Any thoughts about the odor?

on a more serious note, could something have died in there? when i kept tropica,l i lost a fish, very fishy smell until a few days after i got rid of it.

I would check your ammonia in the tank. I'd be concerned that something died and perhaps is fouling the water. Other than that, I'm not sure. All of the fish are still in the tank right?

All fish are accounted for. One other thing...I have added, in the last week and a half, 3 Royal Urchin.

I would definitely check for ammonia just in case something has died back behind the rock work.

I've had that before! My tank smelled like a fish market, or the bad part of the ocean....and then it went away. I never found out what the cause was. I hope your stench goes away too!!

a lot of times my DT doesnt smell but my sump does... especially the skimmer.
maybe that could lead to helping pinpoint the odor next time it arises

I've had the same thing happen a couple times also and found it to be the collection cup of the skimmer
