Okay, little problem: I can't get a 20L under my tank 72 bowfront! I didn't think I would have a problem using it as my sump, but it looks like I'm going to. Has anyone ever got one under there with the standard 72 Bow stand? I am moving soon, when I move, does anyone know if the 20L would fit through the TOP of the stand before the tank is in place at my new house? The dimensions line up, it's the configuration of the doors which stops it.

I had a similar problem with my 90g bow, in the end I moved all of my equipment to a room behind the tank... I was very lucky that I had that room available!

I would not recomnend placing anything under the tank that you cannot remove through the door. Sooner or later you will need to move that equipment out from under the tank and will be unable to do so!

I think that you are going to need to look at a different sump design, or custom build one that will fit.

I heard from a guy who did it through the top, but haven't considered what you just mentioned. That's a great point.

I am now leaning towards using a 10g, which easily fits, and having the Skimmer sit outside of it, that way everything can be removed and serviced easily. I believe the 10 can hold my pumps, reactors and heater without a problem.

What i've done, and i've seen other people do in the past on here is...cut a little trap door on the side that allows you to slide the tank in length wise. What is the width of the tank? How wide is the side of the tank from end of post to end of post? I don't know if this is possible for you, but if you can...I believe this would make it fit in the side and if you ever need to access it later! you can with ease!! good luck!!

    NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
    YEEESSSSSS!!!!!!
    Whew........
Good idea. I was thinking of doing this at one point. You will just need to frame it up properly as it is load-bearing.

The side door wouldn't work since the tank/stand are a Bowfront. The middle of the stand has enough room, but the sides are thinner to fit the design of the tank... too thin for the 20L sump. I could take the back support out and add more to the sides, but I'd rather not mess with the support structure of the stand. I'm planning on going with the
10g instead and leaving the skimmer out of it. I set it all up in the shower today and that worked fine.

When i put my sump into my 72 gal bow i lowered it in from the top and then set the tank on. I can access and remove all my equipment through the doors so i see no problem with lowering the sump in from the top if it will fit through. If i remember right i removed the top center brace than reattached it after inserting the sump.

Just my two cents but i see no problem doing it as i did.
