I need to fix a crack in acrylic wet dry filter. What's the best way to do this? What compound works best to give it a strong watertight fix?

You could use silicone or the weld stuff everyone talks about.

Silicone will not work well with acrylic. I would try Weld-On to seal the crack.

Unless you know someone with a plastic welder, that weld-on stuff seems to be pretty good.

I had this happen to me. I could not find the weld-on so I bought two pieces of acrylic and sandwiched the damages area of the sump I pretty much smeared silicone all over both pieces that I put on each side of the crack.. It's been almost a year and it's holding up great.. Mine is slightly above the water line so it is not constantly under the water which I can't tell from the pics but may be your situation here as well???

Use weld-on 16 if you van get your hands on some. The only places I have been able to find it are online. If it is above the waterline I wouldn't even bother with it. Maybe just buy some epoxy and put it on both sides of the crack to seal it. Just in case water level does reach there.

Was just thinking, if you cant find the weld on, try fiberglass resin. You can pick it up at most hardware stores and even wal mart sometimes. I have used mainly for body work and fabricating parts for cars but its very strong and sticks to just about anything as long as you scuff up the surface. If you go that route a small can is like 7 bucks and can be put on with a paint brush. It comes with hardener so the more you add the faster it dries. I tend to use at least twice the recommended amount of hardener otherwise it takes forever to set up.
