i always thought cleaning the return plumbing would be a waste of my time.well tonight i did a quick water change and when i finished and turned the return pump back on in my sump and the water did not flow.i turned it on and off and nothing.long story short.i had to take apart the plumbing to find a clump of algae a foot long an inch thick.i really need to go to bed

Wow. How long has your tank been set up? This algae was in your return line or drain pipe? What kind of algae was it?

could've been worse, last time i was up at 4am fixing my tank it was because of a leak that flooded my dining room

it was a mixture of sludge, chaetto and green leafy stuff that built up in the return where it splits right before going into the tank from two flexible nozzles.yeah,it would of been worse if i had'nt noticed it and the pump ran all night like that,or if it was a clog in the drain into the sump.
