    Hello everyone.

I have a FOWLR tank with a Volitan Lionfish, Marine Betta, and a Purple Tang. My wife and I agree that the tank is lacking in color and are looking for something to spice it up a bit. I was thinking that a flame angel would look awesome in there. I am not worried about the lionfish or the betta with the flame angel, I worry though about the purple tang. Does anyone think I will have any problems putting a flame angel in with the tang? Thanks in advance.

Purple Tang's are one of the more aggressive Tangs, then comes the Yellow! However, many timese there boisterous attitude is geared towards there own species so, you shouldn't have a problem with adding a Flame to the scenario.

I've got my flame angle in my tank along with two yellow tangs and a royal tang. There has never been an issue!

Well, I went down to the lfs today and picked one up. My purple tang was pretty mean at first. It kept tail-whipping the angel in the face. They seem to be fine now. So now I have a new question. I really love this flame angel, it adds the perfect amount of color. I would like another one. Can I have more than one in the same tank? If not, I was also thinking about adding a hippo tang (Doree fish). Would that be a better choice?

Well, that all depends on the size of your tank. I know Tangs like a lot of room to swim.

What size tank do you have? If you decide to get a Hippo tang, get one that is larger than your Purple Tang because that P. Tang may bully it to death. I have a P. Tang and had Hippo with it and they woud spar all the time. Eventually they learned to live together but you never know what is going to happen when you mix tangs. Currently I have a Powder Blue with my SOB of a Purple tang. They seem to get along but Powder Blues are very aggressive as well where as Hippos are a more passive fish.
I dont know if this helps or not.

I would really like to add another flame angel though. I wanted the tang in place of the angel if 2 flame angels in the same tank was a bad idea. So what do you guys think? Can I go down sometime this week and pick up another flame? Also, is there anything I need to know about pairing them? Sexing?

If you have one now then I'd not add another But I do have a tank at work where we have 2 flames and several yellow tangs all in there together. But its a 200 gallon with lots of hiding places.. So if you now have a flame then add another you may be alright ? But then on the other hand there may be a long adjustment period until the set the pecking order.
