Lately my flame angels head has been getting black on it( just getting darker) but when I came home today it looks like skin is gone on the sides of his face any advice, or know what is going on?

What's level is your pH at and how long have you had the flame in your tank?

Its really hard to tell without a picture. As long as your pH isn't out of whack, I would be concerned about the fish getting a secondary bacterial infection where the scales are missing.

Have you added anything new lately or lost any other fish?

Try to add some slime coat to your system to try and speed up the recovery process.

I had this happen to an undulate trigger of mine after adding some new fishes.
Stress coat to the tank is a good idea.

Are you sure it isn't HLLE?

I was thinking the same thing.

What do you typically feed your Flame Angel?

The only thing i have added lately is some mushrooms, and no I have not lost anything.

I feed Nutrafin Max Spirulina flakes, and brine shrimp

You might try some different food. i don't know that this is the cause but you could give it a try. i know the brine is not supposed to have a lot of nutritional value. you might try mysis or a food geared toward angels. you could also try soaking the food in one of those liquid vitamin soaks like the Kent Zoe. i also had a flame angel that would eat nori although my current one doesn't show much interest. Anyway, i would just shoot for a lot of variety and it might get what it is missing if nutrition is even the cause. Another theory is that stray voltage causes HLLE.

Excellent food. I use that or OSI Spirulina flakes. OSI was on sale for less than $2 a couple of weeks ago on Big Al's Online, so I bought that instead. Both are excellent food for Angels. Not sure it's a nutrition problem now. When I had Coral Beauty or Flame Angels I fed Spirulina flakes, Brine flakes, freeze dried brine, chopped up table shrimp, and freshly hatched brine shrimp. Never had any nutrition issues with any of them. However, I do use Marine-Max and dose it at half of the suggested value. I don't know if that would make the difference or not.

How about some pics? Nice clear ones would be preferred. ;)
