I got a flame angel about 3 weeks ago. I just noticed some white spots on him. I had an ich problem several months ago that wiped out a few of my fish. The flame angel is the only fish with spots. I was debating on wether to give him a freshwater dip and returning him to the tank and raising tempature And lowering salinity. My question is freshwater dip a good idea if I am retiring him to the tank? Thanks for the help

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In my opinion no, a fresh water dip is only temporary relief, will stress the fish out far too much for the good it does.

Unless you lower the salinity to the target of a sg of 1.009, you will not kill the ich or even make it flinch. A SG of 1.009 will however kill all inverts and corals in your tank and put a big dent in your biological filter.

If you can not treat in a QT, feed foods high in HUFA, or garlic or Selcon.

Go get a cleaner shrimp to help you out some. they ain't the best, but they usually will celan the Ich off of fish. No fresh wayter dip, I agree, it just stresses the crap outta the fish, more than needed.

I'd set a QT up even if food works, just in case. Also, skip the shrimp, it won't help in the long run and will waste your money. Good luck fighting it.

Agree with Corailline, no FW dip. I know this question gets old quick, but what are your parameters? I'm a strong believer that proper parameters tend to allow problems to work themselves out, including ich.

I read a while back that the cleaner shrimp doesn't actually clean the ich at all. Instead they are eating the dead flesh caused by the ich. Having a cleaner shrimp wouldn't hurt, and it might even ease the stress on the fish, but technically the shrimp is not cleaning the ich itself.

Shrimp are by no means a waste of money. My two cleaner shrimp are probably two of the coolest creatures in my tank, even if they don't clean parasites.

I never said they aren't cool, read your response to reefing. He isn't asking for stocking advice, he wants help killing MI off.
