Just about 2 weeks. However, this is not your typical QT. It is a 46 Bow, with live rock, 2" sandbed, skimmer, carbon reactor, 4 Koralia Evo's controlled via a wavemaker, and a good size cleanup crew. It has been setup for 7-8 months. I know what your concern is, with it not being able to pick at the live rock, but there is plenty in the QT for him.

Here is a picture of the Flame:

Mine picks some and doesn't eat the few sponges I have.

He eats spectrum pellets, the sinking ones, and a frozen food I use called
    Limpits Reef Buffet.- good stuff

Good to know. As mentioned, the only food mine has picked at are Spectrum pellets. I will look into the Reef Buffet though!

Wow Marshall, I thought I fed a fairly good variety of food....I was impressed with the variety of food you listed that you've tried with the FA. He looks good to me in the pic.....I'm thinking I may get a FA....I'm glad to know they are finicky eaters - I wasn't aware of that.....

Same; very active, picks at the rocks and sand all day long, just won't actually eat much if any foods. Still has at least 4 weeks left in the QT, so hopefully I can ween him by then.

Thanks, I love to mix it up! I actually have another 10 different kinds of food not listed "in stock", including a couple gel foods, frozen clams on the half shell, freeze dried Mysis, multi-pack of frozen food, brown & red algae sheets, and some different pellets and flakes. Most are unopened as I don't want too many foods open at the same time.

Hopefully my experience helps some others as well!

Well I have gotten it to eat pretty well the last 3 days. The trick? I feed some New Life Spectrum pellets before feeding the "real" food. I figured I would try this since the NLS pellets was the only thing it would eat, and sure enough success! 3 different frozen foods in 3 days.

Just wanted to share the good news :)

Thats awesome glad to hear it, I was going to tell you that when I got my FA he didn't eat much when he was in the QT, he did eat prepared foods but only when I was not looking lol (or at least he thought I wasn't looking :p ) what would happen is when I feed him he would come out of his hiding spot check out the food then go back into hiding, after a little bit he would poke his head out again and munch on the left overs that fell to the bottom.

He eats like a pig though in the DT lol

Congrats!!!! Even in the picture he looked nice and healthy. I have my Flame Angel in a 46 bowfront, got him 5 months ago and he ate like a pig from day 1. NLS pellets, PE mysis, RODs pacific plankton, and RODs original.

Even if he did not eat when fed I would not have been to concerned he is the only real grazer in the tank with 40+ lbs of dry rock and picks all day long. He demolishing my pineapple sponges but seems to leave my other sponge alone.

Thanks! He actually is not shy at all. Always swimming around the tank. I do leave the powerheads off for a couple hours after feeding, so he can continue to pick if he wants.

:) He does look very healthy to me too. Even though there would probably be enough to sustain him in the 55, I would rather him eating prepared foods as well so there is no guessing if he is slowly starving or not.
