I got my flame angel about a week ago. He was eating at the LFS - ate frozen brine shrimp while I watched. Since I got him home, though, he is not eating. I have tried frozen mysis shrimp, flakes, nori sheets (with garlic), and pellets. Won't touch anything, even though he sees the other fish going crazy over these things. Now, he does peck all day at my live rock, so I don't think he is starving. But I am wondering what to do about this....have tried soaking in garlic with no effect so far.

My flame angel rarely ate pellet food that I would drop into the tank, but he lived a long happy life until a freak tank accident. Like yours, he would peck rock all day and I even caught glimpses of him picking up leftover pellets that landed on rocks.

I did not see mine eat for about the first week and even now I will see him eat but he is easily spooked. But, picking at the rocks is good that shows he is eating something. He prob just needs a little more time. ;D

Have you tried the brine he was eating before? ;)
What about angel-specific food, which they should be getting periodically anyways? ;)

Packleader - I didn't try brine simply because I was told it is not very nutritious, so I chose mysis instead. I can always pick up some brine shrimp though. Now, regarding angel food - what brand do you recommend? My LFS did not seem to have any specific angel food. Is it frozen, or is it dried (so it can be ordered online)?

to be successfull with any dwarf angel fish your tank must be at least 5 months old . Maturity of the tamk is a must . Ich occurs when immune system of the fish is weakened by new enviroment . Every time you introduce new fish use Melafix Marine witch is save for both fishes and invertebrates . When it comes to diet I feed my fish brine shrimp with spirulina , nutravin flakes and and dried sea weeds . That`s the only food I feed my fishes for the past 12 moths . All are happy, fat and lively . I have 3 dwarf angels ( flame , lemonpeel and coral beauty plus 8 other fishes) in small tank ( 40 g only ) .
I set up 100g tank cose of my water quality.

brine is very weak on nutrition but.....if it's the only thing that the fish will take, then it's the only thing. I know it can sometimes be hard to get a fish to take mysis so you may wanna get some brine and mix it with your mysis and try that.

+1 - also not a bad idea to soak brine (and all other food) in a vitamin supplement like selcon before feeding. Has worked for me with some picky eaters in the past.

Thank you for the replies. I do feed a flake food, which all the tank inhabitants eat very readily. But the Flame Angel eats it very sparingly and seems to be maintaining itself on the tank algae from grazing on the live rocks. I haven't seen it eat much of anything else. It's healthy, but I want to be sure it gets what it needs and had read about the spirulina, but found little info on actually feeding it to saltwater fish.
