I purchased a Flame angel yesterday. After acclimating him for around five hours placed him in the tank then went to work. When I returned home I noticed that there was a piece of his fin missing and the Brittle star was grabbing at him as he swam by. Obviously this morning when I checked the tank the my brittle star had him in his clutches. goodby buddy

    Sorry for your loss. :(

I would consider brittle stars opportunistic. In other words, a scavenger... anything else at play here you can think of?

Buddy you are not the first to be told then sold a brittle star then have it to eat fish or clams I had a so called totally reef safe one it was red and it tore up several clams and a few smaller fish to be sure we are all talking about the same thing as common names can get confusing , Ophiarachna incrassate? and is known and proven to ambush and eat fish ! Clams or anything else then can push their stomachs into or over.. And they they are opportunistic no doubt about it they ever get the opportunity they will eat it . Oh and they get really large :) I have seen them at size's that made me move my hands when they slid out from a close by rock ):

Yeah I believe that is the same one. I really don't mind losing a fish it just suck that a lfs that you are supposed to trust tells you one thing and the opposite happens. It was a awesome fish just sad to see it go even though I had it only for about 36 hours. I was checking the water last night and had the lid open and he was trying to jump out. I didn't think that something might have it spooked to point of jumping out. Oh well live and learn

Luckily it has only been the flame angel, I have a shell for a turbo snail that is empty but I figured it was the hermit crabs since I saw them wrestling with it a couple days ago.
