Good evening, my new (1 week to tank) Flame Angel fish has become covered in white splotchs covering his body. He is slightly lethargic. what could this be? I will be using the search function but would like to be able to do something if this is possible. should I remove him? I don't have anywhere to put him. Please help, I don't seem to have any luck with this breed

Dots are small, maybe pin sized. It does sound like Ich. The tank is a 55 gal with a 29 gal sump. Set up for 2 months. There are other fish

he did say his tank has been set up for a week? or the angel for a week?

Flame angel fish are very prone to ich so im almost positive it is.

what are your water parameters? and how old is your tank? and how big?

i think your tank isnt ready for an angel fish just yet.. i think the time frame for one is around the 5th month to be more succesful.

    what are your water parameters?

i would keep him in the tank but feed him very nutritious food and add garlic to it. Let him fight it off on his own.

it isnt a matter of water quality ( although it is very important)
it is the fact that you need an established aquarium that has lots of good alage for the angel to graze all day on.

Since you already have your angel, i would suggest feeding him with very nutritious food to compensate. Add garlic to entice him to eat more.

i have heard some people using melafix to treat the wounds of the fish to prevent a secondary infection from the ich.

    I second that.
It is not a matter of water quality as elwe said above. Your water parameters seem to be very good and the ich could be caused by stress. I never had good luck with dwarf angelfish until I waited long enough to add a coral beauty. I had a lemon peel and a flame as well and both of them died the same way. They did not get ich, but refused to eat and were very lethargic.

For the ich, the best results I had were by feeding good meaty foods, rinsed and soaked in garlic extract or dried algae on a clip. Nori works very well, specially if soaked in garlic for 5/10 minutes before introducing it in the tank.
Also try some vitamins to give him a boost. But good feeding should give him the strength to pull through.

PS: a picture would help to find if it really is ich.

we need alot more info on your tank, what size, how many fish, what kind of fish, is the infected fish being picked on, how much rock, ect, the ich can spread to all others in your tank, your tank is very young. James
