Hi, I want to get a flame angel, are they reef safe. Different web sites say different things. Also are they compatible w/ clowns, gobies and tangs

I have seen many Flame angel in a reef set up.
It really depends on the personality of you fish. Some angels can live for years in a reef and not touch any corals, while others eat or at least pick at Zoos, Leathers, Xenia, and even SPS.
It is quite the beautiful fish, I would check with your LFS to ensure you can return it if it acquires a taste for you coral. Then pick one up and watch it closely for a couple of days

I got one and it doesnt bother anything. I have a coral beauty as well. They do fine. But like jakets said , It depends on the personality of the fish . They are all diff. just like people.

I have a coral beauty and a flame and a pygmy angel.
I have the corals mentioned above and + some. The angels have never touched any corals as of yet. They do chase the pygmy around some but I have plenty of hiding places for her.

My Flame behaves fine and eats well I like them a lot. I have also mixed with other small angels but only recommend it with caution

Yes if the Flame is the most aggressive fish on your livestock list. Angels have also been known to nip clams.

What critters do you currently have in your tank?

This is a new tank so nothing yet im just trying to make a livestock list so that I can better plan.  Order of introduction and weed out any incompatabilities ect..... As far as fish go I plan on getting ocellaris clowns one tang but Im not sure which one. I want to get a whitecheek tang but I heard there more an expert fish. Yellow watchman gobies, and a flame angel. I figure the gobies should be 1st followed by the tang then the clowns and then the angel
