I bought a Flame Angelfish about 2 weeks ago. It has been in a QT with copper and eating and swimming normally. Today it was not moving much and when I started looking at it I noticed the left eye is popped out and cloudy. He also didn't seem interested in eating. I am using Copper Power and it is supposed to be used at 2.5 ppm and I tested it with 2 different kits and I got 2.4 ppm on one and 2.4 - 2.5 ppm with the other kit. I also checked the parameters and got 1.023 sg, 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, 10 ppm Nitrate, 8.3 ph. I am unsure what to do. Should I remove the copper? I have anti-bacterial medicated food and I tried to get him to eat it and he didn't seem interested. Thanks for any help!

I have recently read where someone had a really response to pop eye with selcon. You could try that. Adding garlic to the food will help if he stops eating.

i'd wait for a pro on this, but i thought copper was supposed to be used in smaller ppm! like 1 ppm!

i guess this one says to use that much! But obviously something ain't working! i'd do a big water change and switch to the other med! My tang had ich and got popeye and quit eating! i put him in a hopsitl tank with Instant Ocean lifeguard, used herbtana and garlic laced food to get him eating again! Sadly it was too late for my flame angel, but the herbtana and garlic seemed to help keep the other fish and tang eating and helped them pull through!IMO!

    Flame Angel in QT

I chnage 40% of the water and added a carbon filter for 12 hours. I then added copper remover. I waited another 2-3 hours and then I added an anti-bacterial medicine. The flame angel had amlmost stopped moving completely but, now he is moving a little bit. Thanks for any more advice.

I soaked his food in garlic last night and this morning with no luck. He is just laying there, moving every now and then.

so do you add copper to the QT as a preventative or did the flame angel show signs of illness?

I always have copper in my QT as a preventative. I have had a ton of issues with crypt so I have the QT setup and stable with the right amount of copper.
