Hey guys, just wanted to know a little more about these guys from people who have had them or still do. I am thinking about getting one when and would like some info on what food they eat and what special needs they might have

I have an Arc Eye, basically the same. Really cool fish, likes to sit on Monti Caps, haven't had any problems with aggression or inverts with mine.
If you have anymore questions just post them here or you can PM me as well.

What does he like to eat? Right now I'm feeding flakes in the morning, protien pellets in the afternoon and mixed at night, and ocasionoly some frozen food.

I wouldn't feed pellets at all. Just highly processed flat ammonia IMO. ;)

He prefers frozen by far, larger mysid shrimps and some of the larger sinking pellets.

These fish will no go out of their way to get foods and stick to their little territories waiting for food to pass by. This is especially true if you have larger free swimming fishes. If you are going to feed pellets you will need large ones that sink immediately in the 1-3mm size range. Frozen is a better option since it pervades the entire water column and tank.

I would get the Arc Eye hawk instead of the Flame, flames get much larger and more aggressive, along with having big mouths to eat inverts. the pictures you see online don't do this fish justice.

I not only agree 100% to this (in bold) but can personally attest that upon cutting pellets out of my tanks diet, I actually solved my cyano problem. Unless they are completely digested, will only add to the amount of waste in your tank. karma +

I actualy have had good luck with my pellets. They all get eaten very quickly and my fish Love them. Occasionally some make it to the ground but my cleaner shrimp quickly takes care of them

Mine goes after any of the frozen food fed to the tank.

I have a Flame Hawk, eats just about anything I throw in. I feed mostly frozen brine or mysis shrimp, but occassionally throw in flake foods as well. He is fun to watch eat as he will swim out into open water grab a piece of food really quick and then retreat to the safety of the rocks to finish his meal and will repeat this until the food is gone.

I have never had any problems with aggression from mine personally.
