So an LFS here just posted that they have new livestock - a flame wrasse and a girdled wrasse.

I've never had a wrasse before. I'm a total wrasse newbie. Which would you suggest for a wrasse beginner like me?
The Flame Wrasse or the Girdled Wrasse?

Wrasses are one of the hardier species, although flame wrasses will sell in excess of 200$. I'd get a flasher or fairy type wrasse if they have one. I don't know about the Phillipines pricing since you are so near to the collection point. Just make sure they are healthy.

The price is just a little less, around $180+. They're still pretty rare here, I think they're more difficult to spot in the ocean. The LFS was only able to get only 1 of each wrasse.

And upon checking, it looks like they're imported from Hawaii. I wonder why they're less expensive.

i paid 160 for my male flame at a local store. i didnt realize when i bought him that it was a good price. he was just so friendly at the store. coming to the front of the tank looking, i went back three days in a row to see him. on the third day i told them bag him up fast before i change my mind. after having him, he is worth every penny. he is a favorite of mine, sooooo much personality.
i ended up ordering a female on line and she was 150.00.

i did recently see a pair on line cheap at one store. if i remember where it was i will post it.

Flame Wrasses are endemic to Hawaii. Check if it is a male or female. Males look much nicer and therefore sell for more. I knew an LFS that had a healthy pair for 220, shoud've jumped at that chance :-/

Do wrasses eat shrimps? I have 2 cleaner shrimps and I wouldn't want anything to happen to them.

It says on the liveaquaria page that they won't touch invertebrates, but it also says in the compatibility chart that they're not compatible with invertebrates..?

That genus shouldn't mess with them. However, I had a Blueside Female that loved to attack snails and crabs. Most won't touch them. but every fish is different.
