Here are some pics of my 60 gallon tank i had in 1990. I had 250w 14k halides over it. One of the first SPS tanks in Northwest area.

Would love to see your old school tanks, lets see them!

    Cool thread!

Here is my 30 long from 1992 - 1994. It ran with a 150w halide pendant and a couple power compact actinics. It also had a venturi skimmer and was topped off with a gravity fed float switch that had kalk in the reservoir. (I think I cleaned that switch during water changes as recent efforts to do the same were cumbersome.) My regime was monthly water changes and a cap of strontium + iodine. It was bullet proof. Indo rock and even a ritteri anemone. All survived a cross country trip in the hatch of my honda civic from NYC to Chicago.

We seemed to have gotten addicted to Tridacna around the same time stylaster.

I had several large clams in that tank. Back then they were cheaper and you did not see PMD to the extent you see today.

Clams are still in my top 3 inverts today. I will not buy anything under 2 inches though and the prices for large clams, well...

Matt what a fantastic mixed reef. I have had the same green turf algae in many of my past tanks and loved it.

Looks like you had a HUGE Toadstool back then.

I wonder if whats available today compared to the types of corals and fish commonly available 20 years ago plays a large part in the reefs we keep today. For instance when I was just striving to keep a SW tank the LPS grew and thrived, Bubble Corals, Euphyllia's usually out grew the tanks. Today in my quest to keep mostly SPS I fail at most LPS.

Now I know there are more images of other old systems out there, ummm cough cough Mr.Bill, 2in10, Jerry, Pickupman, SteveWright........

Thanks Cheryl. My tank did great for years until I started pruning that algae way back. Then the nasties got a foothold.

It was huge. :) And I enjoyed watching it drop new buds off of it from time to time.

I think about this too. I might follow up on this later. There are a few on the tip of my tongue to talk about but memory is not serving at the moment. :p

Here is my experiment reef tank I had some time back in 92/93. It was a 65g and my main light source was the sun and when I didn't have sun the 8 T12's would take over, I think they were 12's or 8's. The first year there was no filter at all, but later I added a Seaclone skimmer. Never fed the fish or Corals which I had 1 tang, 1 percula and a mandrin goby.
I had to often cut back the micro algaes that I allowed to grow in the tank. The Corals grew amazingly good.
