float switch failure

Recently my floatswitch got stuch and the pump remained open and all the water from the reservoir to the tank. fortunately SG went from 1.024-22 as i jus keep a 1gal jug for it and my system is less than 30g. it started working again perfectly once i just shook it. i noticed 1 thing, that there are those tiny featherdusters growing in it. can that be the reason for it??

 

I don't see why not, if anything is growing onto your float switch it can & will decrease performance or prevent from working.

I check my float switches often, also you can always add another switch to prevent this from happening again.

 

I'd def say they at least made it easier to happen. Mine tends to get jammed up with snails from time to time. I keep a similar sized reservoir for this exact reason!

Luckily you can just let the water evaporate to slowly return to it's normal SG, so you should be fine as long as it doesn't overflow

planning on using 2 float switches, but how to wire it?

 

What are you using to control your ATO at the moment?

 

jus a float switch connected to aqualifter.......

 

You might want to look into JBJ, they have a really nice ATO system with two floats.

 

Wire the two switches in series so they both have to be on for the pump to run...
