I've been doing research on float switches for my sump in case my overflow looses suction and I have come across various switches.  Here are the links for anyone interested

Does anyone have any experience with the Ultralife switch? I'd like to know how well they work.

Personally I am not a big fan of mechanical floats like that. The failure rate seems higher to me cause the float can be stick up or down from debris, snails, etc... I use the spectrapure level control on my tank which works on air pressure. I have used it on my personal tank for a year now with no problems and I know of one on a maintainence that has been working for 3 or 4 with no issue yet.

IMO what you have is called a mechinacal float switch Shawn (had one fail on my R/O last year, it was 3 years old)). I used 80+ electric float switches with very little problems. You just need to install them correctly and know how to protect them ;) We put 16 of them on a 1/2 million dollar install we did. We had 1 failure, and it was DOA so nothing happened. We also installed a level sensor that could tell us within 1/2 inch of where the tank level was @ (4' tall tank).

I use the Ultralife switch for automatic top up on my sump. Works great and is very accurate. Can keep water level fairly constant with only 1/4" or less variation.
