A really close friend that I go to school with lives on the SW side of town. She called me a couple of days ago hysterical because she just found out that her parent's first floor was completely submerged and the second had a few feet in it. Nashville just seems like such a random place to have a flood? Nothing bad ever happens in Nashville lol

They live in Chattanooga which luckily was largely unaffected like the cities on the western side of the state.

I actually have several friends down there now for a meeting with local pastors. During the flood of 93, we formed a charity to help with these kinds of disasters. We fixed our own back yard that year but we have been to many cities and countries since. Home, Service International - Pastor Jeff Perry

I live in Sumner County- just north of Nashville, which is another area that was hard hit. We had some critical hours as we sat and watched the water inch closer and closer to the house. It got to our patio, but thankfully not any closer than that. There is total devestation in Nashville and surrounding areas.

Oddly enough the reason why you haven't seen us lately is because of vacation! Different vacations though. My parents went to hit up the beach in Destin, FL, and left my brother and I in charge of the castle. Then I went up to Knoxville for my girlfriend's prom for the weekend :)

I have had many friends effected by this actually haha. One of my friends had her exams cancelled, but they couldn't get home from college because the roads were flooded. I really don't know why she's complaining.

But it was pretty bad over there. We were expecting it over here, but as usual these mountains make our weather unpredictable. All we got was a little rain. Our power went out for about 10 minutes yesterday though.

Also, my friend's dad works for the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and last he told us the water was 3 feet above the stage. I've heard it's higher now. My friend is at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, so he just got the same weather we had here. But he did have something I didn't, pictures! :D

Also keep in mind...Nashville is basically I giant bowl. They seem to leave that out of the news reports, but geographically nashville is in a giant bowl. So that doesn't really help the flood waters. Also, there are no major rivers going through nashville, while in Chattanooga and Knoxville we have the Tennessee river and tons of smaller creeks, and those would seriously help with drainage if we ever had that kind of flooding.

It's been pretty crazy around here. I had a new river and lake in my back yard, roads are still shut down.

The Cumberland is a pretty big river dude. The Harpeth is also a tributary which helped with some drainage, but when you get a years worth of rain in less than 24 hours, there's some serious problems, no matter what rivers are around.

Glad to hear that you escaped the damage. I could not imagine sitting there and watching the water rise.....
