Sitting and watching is pretty much all we could do! I kept staking the yard to see how much the water level was rising, and it was frightening. Mind you, I live on a ridge (White House), but even our little ridge didnt get out unscathed. I have work and friends in Hendersonville and Gallatin- much harder hit areas, but due to the flooding, the interstates and most roads are closed, so we cant get out to help. Im a sped teacher, and at least one of my students was completely washed away/destroyed. It definitely makes you feel powerless. They say now that the Cumberland River has crested, so hopefully we can all begin to dry out soon.

Im sending a link, for those of you interested, that shows some of the earliest damage to my area. A friend of a coworker shot the video. It is scary to see the roads that I travel down daily are indistinguishable from surrounding creeks. This video was from Saturday, which the rain didnt quit until Monday morning.

The power of water is just amazing. I wish all in the affected areas the best in digging out.

Just heard today that the Aquarium Restaurant in Opry Mills Mall (beside Opryland Hotel) had a complete loss of livestock. They had a massive tank that had sharks and fish, as well as several other tanks of tropical fish, and a petting tank filled with stingrays. Every single animal was lost. Horrible news to hear.

Also, today was the first day our school district was opened (to those who could get to school), and my drive in was disheartening. Horse fences ripped apart, cars in the middle of yards, trees down, farm animals wondering... Truly terrible. Keep Middle TN in your thoughts and prayers.
