    Don't forget about sump weight if your adding one of those also. A second floor can certainly hold the weight. But it has to be in a good spot. Hopefully you can figure out what way the joist are running from the floor underneath. If you have floor registers for your heat/ac sometimes if you can see what way they go that will tell you "most likely" what way the joist are going. If your first floor is finished sometimes at the right angle you can see the screw marks in the drywall and that will show you what way they are going. The more I run my 75 dt with 20 gallon sump i wish I flipped it and ran a 20 dt and a 75 gallon sump. It's a lot cheaper and my water quality on the 20 would be nuts! And I could afford all the cool lights and wave makers ( sorry to get off subject ) good luck with what you go with

    Joists always run perpendicular to the length of the structure, or the peak of the roof (IOW, side-to-side). :)

    In my townhouse they run the length of it and I have 4 steel beams that support the load. So I guess that's perpendicular to the length of all 5 units. I didn't do much residential work. Ill have to pay attention to this. Thanks!
