I want to add some more lr to my aquarium, I want to buy it dry and cure it myself to save money. One website had florida rock for really cheap. I wanted to know what is the main difference between that rock and fiji rock and for people who have some florida rock, if they like it better than fiji.

As to the difference to florida and fiji I don't know. I have a little of both in my tank and couldnt really tell you the difference.
But on another note, if you are going to dry, then cure the rock yourself, why not do base rock instead of live rock? Its already dried, all you have to do is prepare it properly then you can just go ahead and add it to your DT to cure, with no ill effects. Plus its a heck of a lot cheaper

Fiji is supposed to be less dense and more porous then Florida.

I have Fiji as FL is not available in my area and Fiji was cheapest.

i really hate florida rock and will not buy it anymore. the fact that the LIVE stuff comes with so many nasty hitchhikers is one thing, but it also really only comes in big brick shapes, very dense and heavy, it does have alot of coraline growth but if your nuking it then this dont matter anyhow. but over all just not as pleasing to the eye, and not good for sculpting nice caves and stuff.

just plain dont like it. IMHO

reefcleaners.org is selling base rock. its probably from florida since i think they are in florida.
the main thing is to ask for some pictures of what your buying to many online sights will send you 45 lb boulder in your 50 lbs of rock

florida lr is just limestone dumped in the ocean for a few yrs.i imagine florida base rock is just limestone they dug up in florida out of the ground.reef bones is cheaper and came from dead reefs in the ocean.just thought i'd give you another option.

I think the Fiji rock is better...ive heard that Fiji has more surface area because of its porous texture and gives home to beneficial bacteria
