Hey so I have a 55 tall tank. I have had 2 mj 1200s in it and a tunze nanostream. It always seemed like enough, but I guess it really wasent because i was always fighting cyno on the sand.

So I bought 2 of the Maxi Jet Mods.

Sure Grip Magnetic Power Head Holders Aquarium Algae Cleaning Magnets - Algae Free, LLC

And they come with a smaller prop and a larger prop. Of course I wanted to put in the larger prop, everyone says more flow!

I put one at one end of the tank and the other at the other end.
And compared to before its like a tsunami in there. I have 2 clowns, and I dont know what they think of it. Especially at night. They used to kinda have these spots in the corners where they would relaxingly sleep or so it looked.

If the pumps are on they seem like they are swimming hard.

So do I have too much flow? Should i have them turn off at night?
    Will the fish adjust?

I also have a wavemaker I can run them on, but it seems like with these MJmods they clank a lot every time they turn on if they start spinning the wrong way, which worries me, makes me think its better to just leave them always on.

    Glen.

Well, if I did my math right, you now have about 3000GPH just in those three. That's 71x turnover. I don't think it is too much, but you could get away with 50x for the comfort of your fish. They will probably stress a fewdays. This is normal. Then they will acclimate and find their place in the tank that is not so turbulant when they want to rest. I am assuming that the lg impeller gives you 1200GPH each. What does the smaller one do?

Actully they claim the large one does 2100, and the small one does 1600 so, I guess I just divide by my gallons?
    4200 + 660
    4860 so 88x that is a lot...

Ok so maybe I should go with the two smaller props it came with. making it
3200 + 660 for the tunze would still give me 70x

    decisions decisions.

Everyone says more but 88x seems like too much. Also my tank is tall instead of long.

yeah i would say its way too much. And just judging by your post, I would say this is a FO tank? If it is I wouldn't go more than 30-40X.
Honestly if it were me, I would get rid of the MJ's and replace them with Koralia's. The problem with the MJ's is that they have a very narrow current path. So you ended up adding even more power to them to eliminate deadspots. The Koralia's have a very wide current pattern, which makes it a lot easier to get rid of the deadspots and not have a typhoon of turbulence.
