I have been reading a lot of posts on here about the importance of flow recently. I have a 29 gallon bio-cube that currently has the hydor rotating flow deflector attached to the pump output.

Should that be enough flow for the tank? Or should I think about getting something like the hydor nano to get some additional flow behind the live rock?

Thanks again (I really appreciate all the advice that I have been receiving since joining 3reef),

the amount of flow would depend on what is IN the tank. for example , large rocks will block flow in some areas to create "deadspace" an area where there really is no movement. this is where ugly things like cyanobacteria will have a chance to grow.

normally more flow the better but you do have to balance the needs of corals. this is a tough question to answer.

for me i simply use the stock biocube pump with 2 way locline to direct some flow. both pointed to the surface which really doesent move a lot of water. so i added a koralia. i also picked up a nano koralia just in case i need it.

That rotating deflector is good, it has random flow.. very effective. I would also get a hydor 1 or even a 2. The BC 29 is about 243 gph, right. In my 16 gallon I have an aquaclear with 300 gph, a Hydor 1 400 gph (they're very gentle with a wide dispersion, not like a maxi that is more like a jet or stream. The hydors are nice, you'll see a random flow hit your coral.. ex. every 10 seconds my zoa colonies experience a wave that moves their tentacles. I also have an AquaC with a maxijet 1200. So you could def use more flow. I'd get two hydor 1's. One on the side angled slighty downward. And one on the other side twards the bottom angled slightly up.
