    More is not always better. Flow is for inhabitants, not for a contest. I had some open rock work and had very good flow through my rocks. I never count return pump as flow, but I put it down the back of the tank.

    I had 2 MP40s on my 90g. I ran profiles that would only run 60-70% power and not both at the same time or duration. Usually anti synced in reef crest. That only realistically comes out to around 46x. However, none of my LSP appreciated it at all. With flow, clean water, and lighting for SPS all my LPS were receding. It was very difficult to find low flow areas in my tank for my LPS and I finally sold a lot of them off.

    Also... corals have specific speeds at which they can capture foods. This is m/sec... and I don't really know how you can measure that in a tank.... but the point is flow can be too high for corals to capture food. We have dead spots and use a lot of pumps to make sure we have good circulation, but a raging river is not necessarily a good thing. Corals need proper flow for respiration and nutrients and yes SPS need high flows.... but you can have too much.

    I agree, it isnt a contest but I tell you what, my tangs love teh turbulence.

    Reeflow Barracuda sump return valved to 1500gph in the tank
    Reeflow Dart on CL
    two Koralia 4's

    1500
    3600
    1200x2 = 2400

    7500gph in my 180. Its alot of water but only equates to 42x. if you take that return pump full blast, that is 4300gph or from it alone.

    I upped my flow again last night! I decided to replace my two koralias with an MP40.

    Now I'm peaking at around 132x turnover per/hour.

    Fish and corals still seem to love it so far.

    Ive got a 1500GPH return pump and overflow... Should i add that as 1500 or 3000? (since it does get sucked down as well :) )...

    Also got 2x tunze 6105 running @ 80% each

    Anyway i was @ 82x in my tank :)

    I have 2 x 1050, 1 x 750, 2 x 425 and 270 from my return for 66X the DT's actual volume.

    Going to have to watch my Euphyllias or move them because they are moving around a lot.
