This is a FOWLR system, though.

For such a setup, I might even consider a W/D. They are pretty darned efficient.

Ya, Bruh, I was not replying to what you said. I get what you are saying.

Sconner you can easily out do a 90g overflow with a Mag 12. A Mag 9.5 is more like it. A 90g overflow bulkhead should do 600 gph I would think that would be plenty for your scrubber.

And ya... you have to have enough capcity in the sump to supply the tank on start up... overflow.... fill and overflow the scrubber and get to the return section all before the return section in the sump goes dry.

The scrubber and skimmer should be prety evenly matched.... what ever you will supply to the scrubber will be plenty for the skimmer. It will have enough to work with. So it should be prety simple to supply the scrubber send it to the skimmer and back to the tank with 400-600 gph and a 9.5 will do that. If yo uwant a better quality pump a Ehiem 1262 is the equivilent.

They are and are well suited for a FOWLR... but that is not what the OP is doing.

I am not clear what you mean. It states very clearly that this is a FOWLR.

    He's not doing a wet/dry... he's doing a algae scrubber with a sump.

I have considered wet/dry and it is not out of the question, as I said in my first post a sump of some sort.
I just went and took all of the exact measurements on my tank, it just came in today. So hopefully this weekend I can start on the stand. They also got in a 40 gallon breeder today, looking at that as a possible sump that I can configure any way I want. They also just got in a used (3 weeks old, too big for customer) 75 for $50 that would make one heck of a sump, but could pose problems getting the skimmer in and out being 21" tall.

Thanks for all of your thoughts, it is keeping me thinking.
