I have some questions about flow. I have a 24g nano with the stock 290 GPH pump and an Aqueon 500 GPH powerhead. I'm told that the rate of turnover should be 20x ... by my calculations I'm at 32x for 24 gallons but realize my rock and sand take up volume so I'm probably like 20-22 gallons ... Is this too much, not enough? Thanks ...

You are fine for softies and most LPS - potentially some SPS too. If you want an SPS tank then you need to be probably double what you are.
