How much flow should I be expecting to use for my 24 gallon aquarium? I currently have the stock pump which puts out 265 gph and a hydor koralia nano which puts out 240 gph. together = 505 gph...which is a 21X turnover rate...is this too little for a reef?

    Any advise is welcome.

    Thanks!

Also, positioning opinions for the powerheads would be greatly appreciated.

Ive got the 24g JBJ nanocube which is basically the same setup, I had the Koralia nano and it was one of the worst purchases I ever made, thing only lasted a couple of weeks before it just totally quit, before that it's water movement was pretty disappointing to say the least, I ended up going with the Koralia 1, positioned it about 4" below the surface and dead center in the middle of the width of the tank, pointed it straight at the bowfront glass and it covers the entire tank very well, I use the return pump in the rear for surface aggregation to help with gas exchange

    Thanks Iraf,

So, since I already have the nano and it seems to be working okay, should I just go ahead and splurge to get the K1 and do the same...basically will only the K1 suffice?

Will my (future fish) be able to swim without problems...I would assume so, since there are currents and waves in the ocean :)

I have a 24 gallon Aqua Euro and its two buit in pumps are good for 320gph, but it still needed more . I started with a #3 Koralia and it was too much and then switched it out for a #1. I have it positioned just like Iraf does and that seems to work best for me .

I have a 24 gallon aquapod too. I replaced the stock return with a maxijet 1200 because I had read about heat problems with the stock pump. I also have a koralia #1 in the middle pointed straight ahead and like it alot.

For a reef you need to be aiming for at least a 40X flow rate or more.

It's pretty simple, you just hook up the maxijet like the stock pump is hooked up. The output on the maxijet is smaller than the stock pump, but you can use a ziptie for a hose clamp.

    Thanks for the help guys!!!

I took your advise and returned the K nano...and got the K1...it was only 2.35 more...weird...

I also positioned it as mentioned above...and it seems to be doing an alright job. I guess I can't really tell right now because all that is in there is rocks :)

Thanks again for your help K+ coming to all!
