flow???

i'm new so am hopeing this is in the right spot.. new to sw n have had my setup for bout a month.. i have a 200gph hob filter. 300gph hob skimmer. m two 1300gph power heads. my question is just where are the power heads soupose to be n blow... the left one is blowing just over the lr n the right is blowing down the glass. i just don't know if they should be in the back faceing more front or there good where there at. the hob filter should be gone n am hopeing on putting a ref by the end of the month. thanks any sugestions will help

 

I know people have suggested to have them pointed toward each other to create more random flow and greater flow throughout. I have mine slightly pointed toward the front glass and toward each other and it seems to give good flow. I've also seen where people suggest to have them toward the back and have flow directed toward the middle front glass (in back is not an option for me because I have a corner with lots of hang on stuff).

 

With non-intermittent powerheads, you'd probably do best with something like a gyre flow. You can google that. Also, there is some description here

Usually the water at the surface is the easiest to move, so, pointing at the surface will get it flowing good. (Also will add shimmer).

 

oppss ment to add it's a 30 gal tank.....

 

Jeez! That's a combined flow rate of 103x! What are you planning to keep?

 

am hopeing a 2 clowns a tag n maybe afew others..... i would like to have corals n am leaning towards softs... i like the brains n mushrooms... am guessing youy saying too much????? i am hopeing to custom a 80gal tank by end of year... hopeing........

 

That is a lot of flow for a 30. You would be able to keep sps in there.

Way too much flow for softies, imo. You're probably wanting something in the line of 30x tank volume for softies, so about 1,000 gph of flow. If you're looking at housing SPS, shooting for 50x+ tunrover.
