I noticed the other day that one of my FA was secreting this milky white liquid from its mouth, first time in 9 yrs I see it do that. Does anyone know what that could have been? Luna

    Did it look like this?

If so it is spawning/releasing sperm into the water. If there are other Crucifers in the tank, they can capture the sperm and fertilize their eggs within. Then release very well developed larvae that can settle and grow into new anemones.

Something like that, but it was wider and alot more than that. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Luna

Spawning and sometimes it is similar to the way that corals and anemones release zooxanthellae!
Temperature increases as well as lunar cycles are responsible for the spawning of anemones, corals and Tridacna Clams especially!

But if indeed, its releasing zooxanthelle, thats not a good sign, is it? Luna

It depends! There are many different strains of zooxanthellae and often times a particular coral etc. will release one strain for another as it will better suit the animal due to such variables as lighting!
So, it is not always a detrimental thing when an animal releases its zooxanthellae, but just a more efficient means for the animal to coexist given the circumstances!!!

Thanks Tom, The FA looks just fine and I really thought nothing of it, just wanted to ask, just in case. Luna
