Ok so not sure if this is in the right section but here is my idea.

I have a fluval edge i want to use as a frag tank, my idea is to drill 2 holes into the top section of the tank, it is just acrylic around the opening so this should be pretty simple. I made up a simple drawing in paint. This is going to be plumbed into my 75 gallon DT with 30 gallon sump, and i am going to just T off the return pump with a ball valve to control flow.

After drilling w.e size i decide, most likely 1/4 in pvc, the overflow will just be a piece that comes in, goes down under the water about an inch, and is capped off. Then i will just drill a lot of small holes in the pvc to allow it to siphon water out. (i know it wont surface skim like this, but its a bare bottom, with lots of flow)
The return will be plumbed into the 1" return line going to my DT with a ball valve so that i can adjust the gph to how ever much my overflow can take.

sorry the pic is so crude.

What does everyone think? any ideas? or tips?

ugh i hate being busy on nights i come up with these ideas! i can never get to the hardware store when i want to!::)

do they make a T that goes from 1" in to 1" out with a 1/4" out? lol

is 1/4 to small? i mean its only a 6 gallon tank... how big of pvc should i use?

how many gph should i be looking to get for a 6gal tank?

Well like you said its only 6 gallons... So there really doesn't need to be a lot of flow going through the pipes..

I tried to make a overflow with 3/4 and it would choke at 500 gph so I was forced to do 1in. But I don't think you will need 500gph in 6 gallons. :)

They do make that tee. If youu can't find it you could try using bushings.
