I have had this filter for a few months and its been nothing but trouble. The capabilities it supposedly has would make it an amazing filter but it does nothing but fill my tank with bubbles. It runs great for a week after I clean it but then right back to blowing bubbles.

And when I call fluval their response is "it's because your not using fluval media" I respond by saying that fluval doesnt make anything thats as good as chemi pure and her response was "your right but you cant use chemi pure in our filters" what a joke.

Sorry about this post but i had to vent lol. Also wanted to warn people.

If your looking for a big canister filter stay away from the fx5 and go with the Eheim.

but does it still bubble and have issues using "thier" media?

while the tech was honest there may be media size (both overall size and pellet size) that is causing the issue.

So while you might not like thier answer it could be the answer. Its like using Ford and Chevy parts on the Dodge.

Oh yea it still bubbles. And when I called them to tell them that it was still bubbling with their media their response was to close the valves a little on the in and out to restrict the flow. This pissed me off even more because ur filter is rated for a 400 gallon tank but if i have to restrict the flow to get it to work then its not running enough to go on a 400 gallon tank.

I have two of these on our tank in my dealership. A 150gallon and never once have had any trouble or bubbles.

I did have bubbles on my brothers 65 gallon and we eventually found a tiny pin-***** of hole in the tube, replaced the tube and it has been working perfect ever since.. So you can't say that the product sucks because you are having a problem.. You probably have a hole in a hose somewhere.

(and lol at the 400gallon thing... I guess I just like overkill)

Why you think I said using thier parts on a dodge. I'm with ya. lol

Anyways back on topic. I'm with him I wouldnt so quick to judge the canister overall. It just sounds like there is something going on somewhere to me. I mean Fluval is a pretty well regarded name in the aquatics industry. Granted that dont make them perfect, and there could be something defictive somewhere, but I wouldnt be so quick to write them or it off as junk.

I have changed everything from hoses to rings to screws. I have broken my back trying to get this thing running right and no luck.
I am sure that I probably just got a bad unit or something but the fact that after research see a lot of people having the same issues as I am combined with the customer service really turned me off to fluval.
The funny thing is I have a couple smaller fluval filters running on other tanks and love them lol
