I'm looking into getting a Fluval G series canister for my 40gal Ive slowly been putting together. anyone have any reviews about these filters, or maybe recommend something better? I'm looking for simplicity and easy maintenance.

    thanks,

G series = way to expensive look at the fluval 405 or something similar all the canisters now a days are easy to operate and maintenance is fairly simple

Are you open to a sump at all? What is your tank going to be for? Not a big fan of canisters just because of cost and maintenance.

Well, I'm still debating as to what exactly I want to do, but I'm leaning into reef system. I currently have a 10gal CPR sump with the built in skimmer installed but it takes up to much room under the tank and maintenance, from what I have been told by others, is not terrible. I just want as much simplicity as possible. I know I could get more adaptability out of a sump, but I don't have interest in that. I have a Eheim on my nano and its great just curious as if there was any thoughts on the fluval systems.

    thanks guys

G5 won't really make anything easier for a reef. Carbon...still has to be changed every two weeks and detritus cleaned in order to keep nutrient levels low. It'll be the same with any canister. I used to run fluval 405 and it was a PITA to clean all the time. There's many seals on those things that can go bad or be damaged. G5 isn't worth the money IMO.
