Flying Fish

Well the other night me and my bro were out swordfishing out of miami and you would be amazed at all the cool creatures that come to the glow of the neon light. I netted what appears to be a little flying fish. It is amazing how tough tthat thing is i thought for sure it would be dead in my tank by morning seeing as when i got home i didnt even have the water in my tank, i had to add the water, salt, sand and everything else then i just took a chance and threw him in.... 3 days later and hes still going strong. He seems to eat stuff out of the sand, not sure what to do to take care of him.

Yes, I have seen then on numerous occassions deep sea fishing out of Clearwater Beach, Florida. They get stirred up by the boats hull and fly for great lengths before settling into the water again.
I don't know what they eat as no one has really cared and maintained one in captivity that I know of!
I would try to offer a variety of food choices for it and watch to see what hand how much it eats. I believe they grow fairly large too.

 

yea i would see them all the time fishing, but none that look like this. He was just swimming nice and slow along the surface towards the neon light when i got him... really cool fish. i hope he survives
