what causes foam? there is not alot of foam but there is some. we just upgraded our tank to a 125 and are currently going through a cycle. we also implemented a DIY sump/fuge and added GFO and carbon reactors. the sump/fuge has been up and running for about a week and the tank is 3 weeks old. my paramerters are as follows... salinity=1.025,PH=8.4,Kh=10,NO2=0,NH3/NH4=0, temp=77,cal=440,mag=1380 . we have a dino outbreak at the moment can this cause foam? also the tank has a stink to it as well which im sure is the algea. any comments would be helpful.

Have you added a new filter pad/bag?? I had that happen with a new filter pad. I always wash new ones first now. Did you add anything as far as additives or for the algae? You really should not have that kind of foam. If you have a skimmer running, is it going crazy?

it is skimming normally. no new filter bags, new reactors but they have been running for a week and no foam. this is come about just in the past two days. if it were a detergant or something would i not see the effects in my corals or fish?? everything looks ok with the exception of our BTA (he is still not happy with the move).

As long as you know that you did not add anything...the skimmer should clear it up.

last time I saw anything like that I had dropped a freshly laundered wash rag in the sump by accident, lucky the tank was just cycling and had no inhabitants so I did a 95% waterchange and waited an extra week for the cycle to catch back up.
The bubbles were caused by excess detergent in the cloth which spikes the phosphates in the tank.
