I live in MONTANA which is about as far away from an ocean as someone can ever get. We have THREE dive shops. It take maybe two weekends to get certified. Do it man. I talked my wife into doing it and she has claustrophobia and is afraid of the ocean. Its her favorite thing to do on vacation!

I think the nearest one is 2 hrs away. Actually, I guess 1.5 hrs (in Akron, OH), but I don't have any other reason to ever go there. Maybe over the summer, I will.

I'm kinda the same way. When we were in Australia they took us to a drop off. You couldn't see the sea floor, I thought I was going to pee my wet suit.

Its my thread we can get as off topic as you like! She LOVES to dive. I got her certified with all the book work and confined dives in Montana, then did the open water dives in Puerto Rico. She has all these rules about NOT doing wall dives and NOT going inside caves and ship wrecks. Totally out the window. Its way fun and easy to get into as as softcore hobbiest. (Scuba gear is pricey to own. I have 2 sets of regs and BC's as well a drysuits fins fins and other fis)
