    OK...am ignorant.. :-/

    What is "TDS"?

    What other indications are there that show when filters need replacement? - can't be just time or volumn produced as water sources can vary so widely..

    Have decided I need at least a RO unit for "top-off" water. Still like my "Aqurium" water for water changes.

    Am thinking of one of those "reasonably" priced Kent units that have the regular hose connection.

    IT STAND FOR TOTAL DISSOLVED SOLIDS I BELIEVE. I ALSO HEARD IF YOU USE A CHEAP HOUSE FILTER FROM HOME DEPOT IT CAN REALLY EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE FILTER

    Scott more like being insane but that is also debatable. :D
    TDS= Total dissolved solids.
    so you would test the finish water with a TDS meter. if you have a RO/DI unit then it should read 0. if you use just the RO then you will find a TDS reading of 5 or so. and the same with just a DI. Put them together and you have the best water available.
    Your filter last longer (ro membrane and DI resin) when you have a flush system on the RO/DI unit.
    The only way to know when they need changed is to use a TDS meter.
    Why are you looking at Kent RO unit when you can get a 5 stage 100 or 75 gallon per day ro/di from air water and ice for half the cost.

    The typhoon 3 come with everything TDS meter, pressure gauge and flush system. and you can get what ever fitting you need, hose type or tap into water line.
