    Just a quick question-from me quick/short-LOL

My question for those of you that maintain a level of 1300+ in your tank, what product or you using to dose?

Also and this is being added after the fact, what type of depletion are you all seeing? Mine seems to absorb or deplete about 15ppm a day-I know it will nbe relative to alot of varibles but curious ion general-not specifics

I had used Brightwell's Magnesion-P to get it to a level of 1300 (but have used up what I had) and currently am dosing with Kent's Tech-M. The Tech-M is because I was going to use that (until I ran across Bulk Reef Supply-which I will come back to) to dose, and I had bought a gallon, but since have ran across a few other options.

The Brightwell was more concentrated so that was used to get the MG to 1250+ so I could jump in with the Kent Tech-M

I am VERY interested in anyone who is using Epsom Salt as there source to dose with.

I had planned on getting the MG Chloride from BRS but am considering the Epsom Salt-unless I read or hear a lot of "DONT DO THAT"

Thanks in advance for any/all feedback/input:thumbs_up

I am currently using Epson salts right now.....I was using reef bulk supply and then switched to Kents Mag. When I ran out of that and honestly ran short of money I bought some epson salts.

I have been using it for about 4 weeks now and only dosed two times so far. I test every couple days to 5 days to see where the level is at.

There is a calculator on this site that you can use to tell you how much to dose. It is a very big amount of epson salts so I divided it up in half doses, and even then was hard to get all that amount disolved.

Tested mine yesterday and it is still at 1350 and it has been a couple weeks since I dosed. But my Kh and calcium is also at right levels and I dose those more frequently. (Using pickling lime right now for that)

I dont plan on using this for long periods...maybe a couple months before I go back to kents or seachem

You can use Epsom (MgSO4) in all reality you will be fine, but longterm use will bring your SO4/Cl balance out of whack.. Will you notice? Probably not.. Will it ruin your tank? Probably not.. Will it increase your potential to have more Hydrogen sulfate produced in your tank? Yes.. Should you be worried.. Not all that much.

I personally make my own.. 5 cups of MgCl to 3 Cups of MgSO4 per gallon of RO water. I add 20oz per every gallon of Ca and Alk I add to my tank so a gallon of Mg lasts me a while.

Thanks Doc, and Schackmel, I added to the Q.

if your following what type of absorbtion/depletion are you seeing-myself it is about 15ppm +/- per day

    Tanks again!

Doc, why do you add the MgSO4, as I read since I am running a Ca Reactor for Ca and KH the MgCl is all I need-am I mising something or does it just give you more solution for the money?

Just curious as your info seems to be great.

    Tanks again

You could add just add the MgCl but you could potentially get your chloride ions out of whack... will it matter? Doubtfully...

I mix up my two part as per Randy Holmes Farleys recipe. It will provide as close to a ideal ionic ratio possible with two part... Does that matter? Probably not
