Has anyone tried to stop them from rearranging the sand? I'd be interested in hearing anyone's success at this. My two clowns have made a mound in the middle of the tank nearly moving all sand away from one size. I figure there's probably nothing I can do but I wanted to ask anyway.

Yeah and there in lies the problem. They picked a LTA that previously didn't have clowns and was living happily in the sand. They found him and decided he'd be a great place to live. They irritated him so much he moved from his spot that he was in for like 8 months. It finally settled back into a spot when they started clearing sand away from him. Now pretty much on a daily basis he moves around to where there is more sand. I mean it's too the point where they've moved sand away all the way down to the glass. Here's a picture I just took from my webcam stream. Sorry for the crappy quality. The sand used to be completely flat across the tank. You can now see the little mound they've created and the anemone (as well as one of those @$$hats) is down in the right-hand corner.

Interesting, I haven't seen this. Mine always stayed in my LTA. I agree maybe something to do with the host or lack of?

Edit: Whoops I see you responded just before me. I'll have to think about that no great ideas at the moment....

The sand movement is quite common from what I can gather for the gold striped maroon clownfish. I just can't see to find any information about discouraging them from doing it.

Huge depression, the only thing I can advise is to place some LR rubble in the depression and see if that gives them something to think about, while they ponder their next evil deed!

I'm watching them, as I type this, continue to move sand. I've actually tried some rubble before. They move the big pieces with their mouth and then continue the movement of sand with their tails.

Seeing as you have no good ideas, does anyone have a good clownfish recipe?

They've only really started doing it since I put more fish in the tank. I had them for about 3 months in a 200G tank by themselves. It almost seems like a territorial thing with them. The chromis and Lawnmower blenny seem to fire them up the most. They're fine with the tangs, gobies, rabbit, copperband, etc in the tank. Strange. They're amusing to watch but I'd prefer to have my sandbed a little more even.
