I just thought I'd share my thoughts on the mainstream aquarium forums on the world wide web. I'm a member of almost all but I only post on 3reef, I've decided to make this my home.:)

Reef central- its like a busy city with alot of angry people. Too many mods.

Nano reef- a wild party. Very kind people though.

Aquarium advice- I enjoyed this one until I got kicked off. The only problem is that the "experts" are noobs. Too many mods.

3reef- it's got that nice small town feel. Very kind and helpful people. By far the best.

Feel free to share your opinions on aquarium forums.:)

This is a really touchy subject and almost always sets off a fight & drama. Its kinda like going to the local ford 4 x 4 club & talking about driving a dodge.

I have visited and am even a member of some of the other boards out there, but here is where I found the best personalities that I mesh with.

I find different information on each. For any general information my first stop is always 3reef. For my build thread and the friends of it, 3reef again. But if I'm looking for something specific.. for example if you want Apex help... 3reef will leave you wanting, where RC has a few very dedicated members to assist on that topic. In general though, RC is full of people who have been made to feel stupid and are dying to pass along the favor :( Past that I love my lfs forum and my closest reef clubs forums! I will stop on the others when google returns a thread that matches a search but I'm not a member.

Agreed. It would also be difficult to voice my opinion about another forum without talking trash. :)

I'm only a member of one other forum, and let's just say I've not even logged into it since I found 3Reef. The friendly attitudes from experienced reefkeepers makes a world of difference.

3reef is certainly the nicest. Sometimes a little too much so IMO. Kind of like how all the kids get trophies and win.

I use to only use 3reef, but not anymore. It's great for beginners and several specific areas, but, well, I've had to use other forums many times to get answers to questions that just sit here. Often *feels* like if the question can't be answered by someone with less than a years experience, it won't get answered (I'm sure this depends on who happens to be online when you post and is possibly only in my head).

Not that the same doesn't happen elsewhere. I get a lot of BS on other forums, but at least I get answers too - even if they are mean answers.

I also don't care how anything negative gets shut down around here. If you want to complain (especially about a sponsor) you have to be soooo delicate in your wording. (But I do like the ban on politics)

I wanted, at one time, to put up a list of eBay sellers and let folks add their experience, good or bad. Ya know, to help folks decide who on eBay is "safe". That got shut down and I was told I could only list the good experience eBay sellers and had to leave the bad ones out of the list. That's the opposite of helpful IMO but in line with being an overly sensitive site. I tell my friends it's a great site, but it's PC run amok.

But I do use 3reef the most and it's where I maintain my build thread.

CaptiveReefs.com been there since beginning my reef...love it and the peoples!

UPMMAS.com (Upper Peninsula of Michigan Marine Aquarium Society) Small, very little action but I'm a Yooper supporting my local club.

3Reef.com My second home away from reefing home.

As far as internet forums my motto is...If I have nothing nice to say about them then I say nothing at all :)
