What a great addition to a reef system Cheato is. Only trouble ive had is the fact that some many critters remain in the matrix. Ive been pulling out a portion of cheato and placing it in the main tank. If you spread it apart and anchor it to a rock, all the little critters will crawl out onto the rock. Next day shake it out in the tank and remove from system completely.

Also by placing it the tank on rock I swear it acts like an algae sponge. I left it on rocks that showed the full effect of a phosphate/nitrate spike and when I removed it there was no algae. I placed it on a colony of yellow polyps that was getting choked by some cyano and after those 48 hours the cyano was almost gone. So imo Cheato's gotta get the number 1 refugium algae award. Best for nutrient export, doesnt go sexual and can be used in other appications.

I have mini brittles, various pods and baby stomatellas, all welcome in my MT. Came in handy cuz after the semi crash a couple weeks ago, much of the rocks organisms died. Reseeding was just what it needed. Of course aiptasia and hydroids would not be welcome but im curious, what else found in your Cheato would you not want in there?
